Holding the Future in Your Hand: Science Fiction Imagery, Film Gadgets, and Commercial Marketing
Numerous devices fathomed by screenwriters, directors, and set designers of sci-fi film leaked into the real world, and this process was documented by print advertisements in contemporary popular magazines. Hereby is a digital archive of the most prominent communication gadgets and space-inspired aesthetic projects from 1957 – 1970 Playboy magazines, Popular Science magazine from the 1960s, and several other honorable mentions scanned from "All-American Ads of '60s", edited by Jim Heimann. Here I will publish my research paper on how the hedonic goods are influenced by the images of on-screen sci-fi upon its official presentation at the Culture and Marketing section of 40th Annual Southwest Popular/American Culture Association Conference at Hyatt Regency Hotel and Conference Center.
